FAQs

Why should I choose Catalyst Performance Lab (CPL) as my endurance coach and/or Registered Dietitian?

In short, I’m an athlete just like you. I have my own coaches because I believe that training with a coach produces superior performances than not training with coaches. At CPL, I use evidence-based science in both my coaching and nutrition practices. I have been a scientist for over 27 years and I believe that research has allowed our disciplines of coaching and nutrition to evolve our practices in helping athletes reach performance goals. Just like I live by my life philosophy to “Challenge Yourself to Cross Your Own Personal Finish Lines”, I’m  here to help you #CrossYourFinishLines!

What is your coaching style?

I’m a very analytically brained and detailed oriented person. I’ve always had a glass half full mentality towards life. As a coach, I meet each client where they are in their own journey and help them create strategies that allow them to fit their goals into their life.

What’s the difference between a Nutritionist and a Registered Dietitian?

There are no formal requirements to become a nutritionist, but Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN) must complete a minimum education of a Master’s degree with either the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree being in nutrition. After completion of educational requirements, RDs complete a 1200 hour dietetic internship with experience hours in clinical, community, foodservice, and other specialties such as sports nutrition and performance/tactical nutrition. In addition, Registered Dietitian’s have to pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) board exam and be licensed in the State(s) where they practice. In order to maintain their licensing status, RDs must complete 75 hours of continuing professional development over the five years between their licensing renewals.

Do you use apps in your services?

Yes! Generally. For endurance and strength & conditioning clients, I use Training Peaks or Final Surge. For sports nutrition and nutrition counseling clients, I sometimes use an app such as MyFitnessPal on a limited use basis. For nutrition, I am not an advocate of tracking food on a long-term basis. I do think using a tool such as MyFitnessPal for a couple days to establish a baseline can be beneficial. However, for some clients these tools may not be beneficial due to their history with food. As a result, use of any apps/tools is established on an individual client basis.

Do you work with clients remotely?

Yes! I work with clients both in person as well as remotely. The same apps mentioned above are used in training remote clients. Remote video services such as Teams, Zoom and, where applicable, HIPPA-approved services are used when working with remote clients.

I have an endurance coach and am only looking for sports nutrition counseling. Will you work with me?

Absolutely! I am happy to work with you and your coach on the nutrition side of your training to ensure that your nutrition meets your training needs. In order to provide you with appropriate nutrition counseling, I would work with your coach to have access to your training plan.

Do you provide race day nutrition planning?

Yes. I provide nutrition services in general nutrition for daily life, nutrition to support performance goals, and race week/day nutrition planning.

What forms of payment do you accept? Do you accept insurance?

For coaching services, I accept Venmo and PayPal. At this time, I do not accept insurance for nutrition counseling. I am in the process of making nutrition counseling services available through insurance carriers.
